Congratulations to Shantell Moore, the 2021recipient of the Marshall Egan Scholarship! This scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving Washington Park High School graduate. The scholarship is funded by friends and family of Marshall Egan, a 1954 graduate of Washington Park.

While at Park, Shantell studied in the Health Services and Education Academy pursuing a Health Services Pathway. She took a challenging curriculum including AP courses in Psychology, Physics, and English and Composition. These classes particularly interested Shantell because they were “hands on” and she likes learning “why” and how things operate and function. She enjoys “solving some problems that make me think”.

Shantell was active inside and outside of Washington Park. She was a National Honor Society member, First Chair Viola in Park’s Orchestra for 3 years, also a 3-year member of HOSA Future Health Professionals and she successfully completed the Certified Nursing Assistant Course at Gateway Technical College in December 2020.

A teacher of Shantell’s comments: “I have been impressed with Shantell’s work ethic and drive to get better, not just to get a better grade but to sincerely understand what she is learning”.

Shantell plans to attend Carthage College where she will study nursing with the goal of becoming a nurse practitioner. She has many creative interests and will minor in dance, a passion of hers. Spare time for Shantell includes playing the piano and her viola, dancing, working out, and volunteering wherever she is needed. Alone time will find her with a sweet iced tea and playing a game of word search.

Congratulations to Shantell on her many accomplishments. We wish her the very best as she sets forth to fulfill her dreams.
